All post-conference field trips and excursions begin from July 27.
We offers you to book a Post-Congress Tour to Saint Petersburg for the period from 19.07.2017 to 21.07.2017 (Program 1) and from 27.07.2018 to 30.07.2018 (Program 2).
One of the world’s most beautiful cities, St. Petersburg has all the ingredients for an unforgettable travel experience: high art, lavish architecture, exciting nightlife, an extraordinary history and rich cultural traditions that have inspired and nurtured some of the modern world’s greatest literature, music, and visual art. From the mysterious twilight of the White Nights to world class opera and ballet productions on magical winter evenings, St. Petersburg charms and entices in every season.
We suggest a field trip (2-nights 1-day) to Yaroslavl city. Our destination point is a depository of Russian super-deep drilling cores (including the 5-km-deep drill core of the Puchezh-Katunki impact crater and the super-deep Kola borehole). In addition we plan to visit the adjacent museum where microscopes can be used to study thin sections of the best samples. Although Yaroslavl is a very nice old city and the capital of the Russian Golden Ring, we do not plan extensive sightseeing. For those who are interested in Russian history and architecture but not in the geology of impact craters, we do not recommend this trip. Instead, you can visit Yaroslavl on your own.
We plan to depart from Moscow in the late evening of July 20 and return back in the afternoon of July 22. Travel time by train is approximately 3 hours. We have booked rooms in the Ring Premier Hotel in the center of Yaroslavl with a price of ~3 500 rubles (~$60-70 USD) per two nights (http://ring-hotel-yaroslavl.ru). Preliminary estimate of the total price is ~$150-170 USD. All prices will be confirmed only in 2018 and will depend on the number of people willing to participate. Because of the limited access to the depository, the total number of participants should not exceed 20.
Note that prices are not final and may change
